This is a single award GCSE in Biology (AQA GCSE Biology 8461).
What will the course enable me to achieve?
It is a 30 week course and covers the following topics:
- Cell Biology
- Infection and response
- Inheritance, variation and evolution
- Key ideas
Students will also study a series of ten practicals.
How much home study will I have to do?
You will need to work for approximately 3 hours per week at home and extra time for revision when the exam is coming up.
Are there any additional costs?
You will need to buy a textbook which the tutor will advise you on at the first class.
Please bring pen, pencil, eraser, ruler and paper to each lesson.
How will I be taught?
The teaching will be fairly formal and will include using basic laboratory equipment.
How will I be assessed?
At the end of the course students will take two written exams. Each exam will be 1 hour 45 minutes long and worth 100 marks.
After completing your GCSE you may like to consider progression and will be happy to advise.
If you earn below £16,009.50 per year or are receiving most means tested benefits you will only pay a £70 examination fee. Please call us if you need further information about this.

Where to go when you get here
When you arrive for your first class please come to the main College Reception where our staff will be able to direct you to your room.
We hope there are enough parking spaces in the College grounds for all our Adult Education students. There are car parks in the Middle Road and the Deacon Road entrances to the site. If you do need to park outside we thank you for your courtesy to our neighbours. To park on-site if you are attending a daytime course you will need to apply for a permit from Student Services.
