About the course
Working from a life model in a relaxed environment artists will explore gesture, contours, composition, tone, line, mass and colour through drawing whilst referencing traditional and contemporary artists. Through the process ‘seeing the whole form’ and using experimental techniques artists will develop their individual style and produce multiple outcomes. You will learn measuring techniques for understanding composition and proportions of the body. There will be short ‘warm up’ poses each session and poses will vary in length throughout the course, progressing to the longer pose as competence and confidence develops.
Life Drawing can be an important way for artists to hone their skills – but it can have a much wider impact too. It can contribute to a mindful and relaxed state, reduce anxiety, improve problem-solving and encourage new perspectives. It’s also really fun.
This structured Life Drawing course is suitable for all abilities. It is suitable for those new to the subject area or drawing in general as an introduction to key elements as well as for those with some experience who wish to develop their practice through the exercises and studies and revisit the fundamentals of this classical subject that will enhance every other drawing experience.
Easels, drawing boards and board clips are provided. Please bring with you charcoal, soft pastels and fixative (hairspray). You will need A2/A1 paper also but this is available to buy from the college at an extra cost. Other materials will be suggested by the tutor when needed. The cost of the model is included in the fee for the course.
