Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 3
This qualification provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly
With children or young people in primary, secondary, sixth form or special schools.
It covers all aspects of Specialist Support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher, bilingual and special needs support, and personal development and reflective practice.
Who is it suitable for?
It is suitable for anyone working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning.
What are the entry requirements?
You should be at least 18 years old. You need to have a good level of literacy. Ideally you will have a relevant level 2 qualification. You should also be in paid employment and have 18 months experience of working within a classroom.
How many credits are required to complete it?
The Diploma requires 44 credits.
How is it assessed?
It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE.
Do you need to be working to take the qualification?
Yes, you will need to be in paid employment within a classroom environment for at least 12 hours per week as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You will also require the support of a workplace mentor during the course.
How long does it take to complete?
You can usually complete it in a year.
You can progress to a Degree in a related discipline.
Age 24 or over– Fees are £2,225 course fee and £120 registration fee. You are able to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan and can finance the £2,225 course fee from this loan. Loans will need to be repaid but repayments will not start until you earn more than £25,725 per year. Loans are not income dependent and there are no credit checks. You will be also asked to pay £5 for the course standards and a photocopying fee of £5 to cover the handouts that the tutor will provide.
Under 24-The Skills Funding Agency guidelines state that depending on your previous qualifications you may be entitled to have your fees waived on this course. If you do not qualify for this level 3 entitlement then you can apply for a loan in the same way as someone who is over 24. See above. Where to go when you get here
When you arrive for your first class please come to the main College Reception where our staff will be able to direct you to your room.
We hope there are enough parking spaces in the College grounds for all our Adult Education students. There are car parks in the Middle Road and the Deacon Road entrances to the site. If you do need to park outside we thank you for your courtesy to our neighbours. To park on-site if you are attending a daytime course you will need to apply for a permit from Student Services.
