Modern Language Department

Learning a foreign language is a complex business. Most people can use a few words, get by ordering a drink or saying hello. Speaking to "them" is ok. Its when they speak back that the problems start. Saying "I don't understand" slowly and loudly whilst waving your hands about doesn't usually help much.

Following a course in your chosen language will help sort out your problems..

The Department

The Modern Languages Department at Itchen College has its own suite of rooms, including a well equipped language laboratory with satellite television links.

In addition to the AS/A2 courses the department offers language units to complement other courses.

Studying Abroad

Modern Languages students don't study solely in the classroom

• workexperience in your language can be an invaluable opportunity
• go native - study trips to cities such as Barcelona include language tuition
• a group of students this year spent part of the summer in China on a Mandarin immersion course
