Itchen College Celebrates Centenary PDF Print Email

Itchen College officially launched its centenary year with a day of events for all to remember.

Friday 6th October 2006 marked the 100th birthday of Itchen, a date when present and past students and staff came together to reflect on the college’s achievements over the past century.

The afternoon saw over 100 people attend the grand photographic exhibition “Itchen through the years”, many of whom attended Itchen when it was a Grammar School on the present site.

Among those that attended was Alf Finch from Bitterne who was our oldest past student at 91 years of age. Alf assisted Barry Hicks, present day principal, to plant a commemorative tree to mark the occasion.

As evening fell, the main hall was transformed into a grand dining room for the Gala Centenary Dinner. Notable public figures attended as well as head teachers from local secondary schools and members of staff from Itchen who have achieved over 25 years services.

The evening was one to remember and a truly special way to conclude the launch of the centenary.

Other events are planned throughout the year, and further details will be posted on this website.

Congratulations Itchen!
