A Level

This course is for you if...

...you love reading and want to read a variety of novels, poetry and drama.

...you want to explore how narratives and poetry work and would like to explore  the dramatic genres of comedy and tragedy.

...you are looking for an A Level that will give you transferable communication skills that will help almost any other course or career.

This course is part of our Creative Arts Academy.

Any course which is part of our Creative Arts Academy or courses such as Law, History, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Business and Modern Languages will combine well with this course.

What topics will I study? 

This course enables you to read widely and develop your skills of analysis and argument by exploring English literature across time and genres, examining how writers present the nature of society and human experience.

You will choose two texts to compare for your coursework which may be linked by theme, movement, author or period.

By the end of this course you will have studied two drama texts including a Shakespeare text, an anthology of 21st century poetry, a poet, two prose texts and two texts of your own choice.

What can I do after this course?

By choosing an English A Level, you will develop easily transferable communication skills that are very desirable for most careers and higher education courses.

English graduates enter a very wide range of careers in the media, public relations, advertising, marketing, publishing, library and information services and teaching.
