English as a Foreign Language

Studying English at Itchen College is one of the best investments you can make for your future. We specialise in helping you to gain skills in both written and spoken English as we prepare you for the IELTS tests, success in which is normally required for entry to UK universities.

We offer the following programmes:

  1. The Intensive General English Skills course

    Aimed at students who have an elementary or intermediate level of English.

    Course summary:

    • 18 hours of English per week
    • 3 terms
    • You will work towards Cambridge examinations at the appropriate level.

    Which exam you take will depend on your progress during the year.

  2. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) course

    Aimed at students who have a good standard of English and/or want to progress to university.

    Course summary:

    • 4.5 hours of English per week
    • Usually 6 terms
    • The IELTS course can be combined with most AS and A Level courses to create a full-time programme of study.

    The final IELTS exam gives students an academic qualification which can be used in applications for places at UK Universities.
