Itchen are the most successful sporting college in Hampshire. Sport at Itchen continues to go from strength to strength. Every year we manage to secure an impressive range of trophies (see achievements).
Specialising in football, basketball, netball, hockey, badminton, rugby and golf the Academy of Sport will improve your performance, provide a professional approach to your sport and help you to achieve your full sporting potential. Our Academy of Sport will enable you to pursue your sporting aspirations, while obtaining suitable academic qualifications from our wide range of courses.
The college timetable is structured to allow the Academy of sport to fit in with all other sport related courses that we offer. You will have 6 periods of Academy each week, and these will include strength and conditioning sessions, sport specific coaching within your teams and college fixtures which take place on a Wednesday afternoon. We also enter elite national competitions in order to develop the student’s potential at the highest level.
The Hampshire Colleges Sports Association programme is the strongest in the country, providing you with weekly competitive fixtures against other colleges from September through to June. We pride ourselves on our dedication in producing confident sportspeople, who demonstrate self-discipline, commitment and determination to be the best.
I live in Romsey so could have chosen colleges nearer to where I live but I decided to go to Itchen to benefit from their excellent football programme. I was aware of Itchen's success in football and was proud to be part of the college 1st team, who won the Hampshire college's league title.

Hannah has just finished her 3rd year at Itchen College where she has excelled in both Netball and Basketball. In netball Hannah has played for Weston Blades and also represented England Schools. In Basketball Hannah has played for Solent Suns in the National League and was also top scorer on the college team that made the AoC Finals. After college Hannah's goal is to play basketball at University in America!
Millie has taken ladies football to new heights with a fantastic 3 year career here at the college. She has been instrumental in leading the college to 2 National Championships also winning 'Man of the Match' on both occasions tallying 14 goals in the process. Millie represents Chelsea Football club and in the future would like to go to America on a soccer scholarship.
Glenn Colmer - Head of department
Glenn is an FA Level 2 qualified coach and was instrumental in turning Itchen into the force they are now for football. Up until this year has always run the 2nd team at Itchen winning the Hampshire League on six occasions and winning the Hampshire Cup on four occasions. This year Glenn has moved up to coach the 1st team with James Taylor and has helped the team to win the 1st team league for the 7th year in a row.
Steve Perkins - Director of Academy
Steve Perkins has been managing and coaching the ladies’ team at the college for the past two years. The Itchen College ladies have been ECFA national champions throughout this period, and the college has built a national reputation as a centre of excellence in ladies’ college football.
