Become a Homestay Host
Itchen Sixth Form College appreciates and values the people who welcome our students into their homes as this is an important part of the student's overall study experience.
Homestay accommodation provides our international students with a safe environment and gives them the opportunity to experience British culture first hand.
We welcome homestay applications or informal expressions of interest to The International Team if you meet the following criteria:
- You have Wi-fi available in your home
- The bedroom that you plan to provide for an international student has a bed, desk, chair and usual clothes storage
Please complete the Sixth Form College Homestay application form in the link below and return it to the college for the attention of the International Team either by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or via post to the college address.
Marie-Flore Hodgson - International School Manager
'We value the importance that homestay hosts play in making our International students studying at Itchen College a success. If you have a spare room and can offer a student a warm welcome into your family home we would be delighted to hear from you.'
What will happen if I become a Homestay Host?
All new Homestay host homes will be inspected by our International Student Officer, who will be looking for comfortable, safe and clean environments which will be conducive to our students’ study and relaxation. Should your accommodation be suitable, all adults in the household over the age of 16 years will be required to complete DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) forms before being accepted onto our Homestay Register.
Once the DBS check has been completed and you are deemed a suitable applicant, we put together a Homestay profile. If your circumstances change, for example your accommodation is altered after inspection, or there is any change in household members, or who has frequent access to the household, we do ask that you contact us immediately, enabling us to update our records accordingly.
Testimonial from Debbie, who is hosting Gloria from Italy
This is my first year as being a 'host' family and I have to say it has been a great experience so far, despite being in lockdown! My student Gloria is from Italy and we had already communicated by text before her arrival to introduce ourselves. I wanted Gloria to feel comfortable in her new home and she has settled in so well, she is very much part of the family. My daughter went to Itchen College so she was able to talk to Gloria about college life. We both have a passion for cooking so we love to cook together and she has even cooked me a few meals, which is quite a treat. It has also been lovely meeting Gloria's family on facetime and I am even trying to learn some Italian! We are both learning so much about each other's cultures and hope to be able to explore a bit more of the south coast as lockdown eases. In some ways lockdown has helped us get to know each other better. We have shared much laughter, always have a chat when we eat together, enjoyed local dog walks, made homemade pasta and a birthday cake for my mother. It has been a highly rewarding experience for me personally and look forward to the continued friendship that we have built for many years to come!
