College Contingency Plan: Swine Flu

Given the recent news about 'Swine Flu' it is worth outlining our contingency planning should we be directly affected.

What you can do.

Currently we are following the government's guidelines and ask that any staff or students with flu like symptoms to contact their doctors and stay away until they are advised they pose no danger of infection.

Please also follow good hygiene practice:

  • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible.
  • Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully.
  • Maintaining good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people.

If someone catches 'Swine Flu' who is at the College.

We would be advised by the Health Protection Agency as to what to do and would inform you. Their current advice (July 2009) is that we will remain open.

In the unlikely event of a closure we would inform staff and students via local radio and newspapers, text messaging and the College website www.itchen.ac.uk and keep you updated in this way.

Students could continue to work via Moodle on http://moodle.itchen.ac.uk/ where you can access course materials and be set and submit assignments.

It would be very helpful since we will be using telephone messaging if you could ensure that students go onto ISIS and check that the contact telephone numbers are on and update them if necessary. We can send text messages to mobile phones and pre-recorded voice messages to landlines.
