Athletics Academy taste success at SESSA competition
The Athletics Academy’s hard work continues to pay off as they enjoyed a successful time at the SESSA indoor event on 6 December 2017.
The event, held at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London, sees the best athletes from universities and colleges across the south of England compete against one another.
There were several standout performances from Itchen athletes. Ellie Hodgson did fantastically well to secure a bronze medal in the women’s shot put, with a personal best of 11.81m. Jack Higgins also secured a bronze medal with a superb performance in the men’s 400m A race running a personal best time of 50.4.
There were also very impressive performances from Robert Pattinson who came 4th in the men’s 400m B race with a personal best time of 53.48 and Ami Carr, who set a new personal best time as she finished 5th in the women’s 400m final.
The men’s 60m event was also very successful for us as four students set their personal best times. Joe Martin (7.27 seconds), Bill Stacey (7.93 seconds), Jacob Thomas (8.05 seconds) and Daniel Hoiles (8.1 seconds) can all be very proud of their performances.
Elsewhere, Zak Mahamed comfortably won the men’s 3000m with his time of 8 minutes and 54 seconds nearly forty seconds faster than his nearest competitor. Hannah Ingram finished second in her women’s 800m heat and newcomers Harry Moon and Jack Barton both ran personal best times in the men’s 800m.
After another successful meet, the athletics academy are now looking forward to their next event.
