Bursaries and Scholarships
For those students with real potential in their chosen sport, there are ways in which they may receive further assistance to help them pursue their goals and achieve the very best that they can.
Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme
The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) is a Sport England-funded scheme which believes that every young person should have the opportunity to gain qualifications alongside their sporting pursuits and have the chance to follow other interests and personal development.
And by formally recognising Itchen's commitment to supporting student-athletes, the TASS Dual Career Accreditation Scheme aims to allow athletes to reach their potential in education alongside achieving success in their sport.
You can find out more about TASS here.
Students who are competing at a high level in their chosen sport may be eligible to receive financial support of up to £500 per annum to help with travel, fees and equipment costs to enable them to attend training camps or competitions.
Students who miss college time due to such external sporting commitments are given the opportunity to receive mentoring to help with planning and succeeding in their academic studies.
The Solent Scholarship
The Solent Scholarship was announced in the 2015-2016 academic year. Southampton Solent University offers one scholarship a year (full university tuition) to a talented sports student from Itchen College. At the end of the year, the student is selected by a panel of University and College staff.
Our Academy of Sport supports students who wish to apply for sports scholarships to American colleges and universities. Over the years we have successfully supported top sports students to gain football, basketball and golf scholarships.
