Women's Footballers Crowned National Champions!

Football Academy

Our Itchen Women's Football team have secured their place as national champions for the second year in a row, playing against Wyke College in the final of the AoC Cup Finals for 2015.

The girls retained the trophy in late April with an amazing 8-2 victory over Hull-based Wyke College at Walsall F.C.'s Bescot Stadium. The outcome was never in doubt after Amber Siley and Atlanta Primus settled some early nerves with two well-taken goals. Itchen stormed into a 6-0 lead by half time, with striker Millie Farrow, who plays for Chelsea Ladies, scoring four of the goals in the first half. Millie continued to create all sort of problems for the Wyke defence in the second half, and completed her double hat trick to take the 'Woman of the Match' award.

Itchen are the first college to retain the ECFA national knockout cup since 2004, with the team having reached the final of the competition on four occasions in the past five years. The girls won the cup for the first time last year, with a remarkable 12-0 win over York College at St Georges' Park.

103 colleges from all over the country entered this year's tournament. The team has had an excellent season, even winning against City College Brighton & Hove with a stunning score of 18 – nil.

Their win is well deserved, and it's another trophy secured for Team Itchen. Itchen are also the Hampshire Colleges' league champions and South East England regional 7-a-side champions.
