Another Successful Season for Itchen's Sport Academies

Academy of Sport

Another great year for our sports academies was rounded off on Wednesday 23rd May as the ladies football team defeated Barton Peveril 15-0 to win the Hampshire Colleges Cup.

It was the sixth straight year that the cup was won by Itchen and added to the Hampshire League, Hampshire Sixes and AoC South East Regional trophies already won by the ladies football team this year.

The men’s football team also had another successful season, with the first team winning their league and also lifting the AoC National Knockout Cup. The second team also completed a league and cup double when they lifted the Steve Perkins Cup.

In basketball, the men’s team lifted both the Hampshire League and Cup under-19 titles as well as reaching the play-offs in the Elite Academy Basketball League. The women’s side were even more successful, wining the Hampshire League and Cup double as well as being crowned as AoC National champions and AoC National Knockout Cup winners.

Two Itchen students also had success in athletics, with Ellie Hodgson winning the women’s U20 shot put and Zak Mahamed coming second in the National Cross Country championships. The college were also crowned as Hampshire Colleges champions.

The netball side also saw two of their star players make the Great Britain Colleges squad when Chloe Blatch and Megan Wallace received a call-up earlier this year.

Finally, the golf academy never fail to deliver success and this year was no different. Amelia Williams was the Hampshire Schools Champion and Brad Wright won the AoC South East competition. The college also won several other accolades.

Congratulations to all players and coaches involved in a fantastic season. A full list of sporting achievements can be viewed here.
