One Year Since the Creative Arts Academy Launch
Creative Arts Academy
It has been one year since Itchen Sixth Form College officially launched their Creative Arts Academy. In that time the college has seen lots of creative events including international trips, visiting professionals and public showcases.
In Art & Design a record number of 47 students went to New York this year as part of the Art & Design trip, where they visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim and the Statue of Liberty.
Our Creative Writing students have written pieces for Holocaust Memorial Day, based on visits to the Imperial War Museum and words by guest speakers who experienced the Holocaust.
In Media they launched a charity CD called ‘Fill Your Boots’ with work from local artists, current and former students and even a college governor. Recently their Media and Journalism students have also been visited by ITV News Meridian journalist, Sangeeta Bhabra.
Performing Arts have also been competing as part of charity Wessex Heartbeat’s competition, The Wessex Factor. Our students have successfully gotten through their heat to the final and will have a chance at performing at the Mayflower Theatre.
It has been a fantastic year for the creative arts at Itchen and we look forward to seeing even more creativity in the upcoming academic year.
