This course is very useful (although not essential) preparation for anyone considering a higher education course in Accounting, Business Studies or Management. Students who enjoy the course may consider careers in Accountancy, Finance and Banking.
What will I study on this course?
This course is all about recording, interpreting and evaluating the financial performance of business. The types of topics which are covered include:
- Double-entry bookkeeping
- Final accounts
The second year of the course develops the above themes in more depth and also introduces new concepts such as incomplete records, partnership accounts and capital investment appraisal.
Extended opportunities and enrichment
Students who are part of the Business learning area have the opportunity to take part in local work placements, compete in national competitions, visit local schools to do presentations and workshops, as well as attend a variety of other educational visits.
