Creative Writing Extended Project Qualification
For students who would like to study creative writing and gain a qualification worth half an A Level.
This course is for you:
- you want to pursue a career in the creative and cultural industries
- you want to be a TV scriptwriter, a magazine journalist or a professional copywriter
- you want to develop your literary writing as a creative outlet.
What will I study on this course?
This two year course is aimed at students who want to develop their creative writing skills. It is an enrichment qualification worth half an A Level, and will be additional to your core three subjects. It claims UCAS points and universities may use it to give you a preferential offer.
Initially you will explore writing in four different forms: prose fiction, prose nonfiction, scriptwriting and poetry. In your second year you will create an extended piece of writing as part of the Extended Project Qualification, as well as delivering a presentation about your work.
The course is taught in a workshop format with a strong emphasis on collaborative work, sharing and discussing our writing.
You will have opportunities to write in a variety of genres and for a variety of media (print, TV, radio and digital). You will have the chance to work with professional writers and explore how to pursue a career involving writing.
Extended opportunities and enrichment
Students will be part of the Creative Arts Academy and have access to national trips, writing competitions, exhibitions of creative work and opportunities to explore local university options.

There are many degree courses in creative and professional writing. This course will also help you in any career that involves writing and producing texts of any kind. The study of creative writing helps to develop a range of key skills that can be applied in the real world, including clarity of thought and expression, critical and analytical skills, team working, giving and receiving feedback and creative problem solving.
