This course is for you if...

  • you enjoy watching a wide variety of films
  • you want to learn about the art and craft of film making

This course is part of our Creative Arts Academy.

This course would combine well with any course which is part of our Creative Arts Academy. Alternatively, students are currently taking it with subjects such as Modern Languages, Government & Politics, Law, Psychology and Sociology.

What topics will I study? 

This course will give you the opportunity to analyse a range of interesting and challenging films using different critical approaches.

You will explore:

  • 1 classical and 1 new Hollywood film
  • 1 mainstream and 1 independent American film from 2005 onwards
  • 2 British films from 1995 onwards
  • 1 European film and 1 film produced outside of Europe
  • 1 documentary film
  • 1 silent film or group of films
  • Experimental film

You will also be able to create your own short film or screenplay.

What can I do after this course?

Many universities offer Film Studies as a full time course should you wish to take these studies further. Film Studies will also provide you with the analytical and creative skills necessary to embark on a wide range of other degree courses.
