Creative Writing Join the Academy
English & Media
Our Creative Writing students were keen to get involved with the launch of the Creative Arts Academy, focusing on pieces relating to the theme of remembrance due to upcoming Remembrance Sunday.
Students wrote prose and poetry based on memories, including remembering experiences they have had at Itchen. They also looked at war poetry and other works.
Whilst many other learning areas were deviating from the norm by collaborating with others, collaboration is a big part of how the course works. Creative Writing student Lyndsey Whitley described Creative Writing as very collaborative, with ‘lots of ideas [going] around the room’.
Their collaboration in receiving feedback from each other and even working together to create a single piece is very similar to what they might experience within the creative industries.
Our students are seen above reading their works for our guests, with one piece bring teacher Catrin Mascall close to tears!
We look forward to seeing what future works our creative writers produce.
