Creative Writing Students Attend Litfest

English & Media

Some of our Creative Writing A Level students attended the University of Chichester’s annual Litfest open day at their Bognor Regis campus on Friday 16 June.

The day involved a number of short workshops on topics such as flash fiction, drama and poetry, alongside the opportunity to experience a taster of university life.

Both university staff and acclaimed authors held workshops and talks; Martin Griffiths, author of multiple award nominated The Poison Boy and Lifers, discussed his craft, inspiration, and balancing a teaching career with that of a successful author of young adult fiction. Marianne Levy, author of children’s book series Accidental Superstar, offered funny and relatable anecdotes about her experiences in the world of television and film before her eventual success as a writer. Both authors offered practical advice for aspiring writers, with one overriding message – persistence and hard work are key!

The day also included a valuable session discussing careers in English, chaired by the University’s Head of English, Professor Simon Barker. Our students found the day extremely rewarding and helpful, and we look forward to continuing and developing our departmental links with the University of Chichester.
