Itchen students take part in Black History Month launch event

English & Media

Two Itchen College students attended the launch of Black History Month to present their short film project.

Christian Garnes and Jack Wilson showed their short film at the event held at St Mary’s fire station in Southampton.

The event was the start of a whole range of activities and shows which will play throughout the month of October to celebrate and remember important events in history.

Both Christian and Jack presented their film in front of a large audience before interviewing some of the guest speakers and dignitaries for a future Itchen Radio show.

Other guest speakers included Janet Hills, the chairperson of the Metropolitan Black Police Association and Stephen Barnes-Andrews, the mayor of Southampton.

A new mural was also unveiled outside the fire station and the event was covered by ITV Meridian.

The video was well received by the audience at the event and can be viewed at the side of this article (or below if you are viewing on mobile).
