Visit From Holocaust Survivor

English & Media

Students from across English, Media and History were given the once in a lifetime opportunity to hear from William M. Bergman, who went into hiding with his Mother whilst his Father and Grandfather were sent to Dachau Concentration Camp during World War II.

Born in East Prussia, William recalled his experiences during Kristallnacht, as well as how he came to live in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. He shared family photographs and records, including his identification card from the war, and impressed upon the students the need to remember these harrowing events in order to prevent them from ever happening again.

Thank you to William for giving up his time to share his story with our students, and also to the Parkes Institute at the University of Southampton for helping to facilitate the talk.
