The English learning area is well known for its academic achievements and the range of enrichment opportunities it provides including trips to the theatre, cinema, museums and residential study trips, as well as chances throughout the year to showcase students’ creative writing abilities.

Emily Priest

Emily Priest

Emily was a passionate writer during her time at Itchen and got involved in various writing competitions, along with being a writer and presenter for Itchen Radio. 

She achieved A*, A, Distinction*, Distinction in English Language, Creative Writing, Fine Art and Journalism. 

Emily is now at the University of Portsmouth where she is studying Creative and Media Writing.

Shaun O'Toole - Learning Area Manager for English

Shaun O'Toole

As well as overseeing the department, Shaun is a teacher of English Language. He is very proud of his department, and they often run national trips to locations such as the Globe Theatre, British Library, and have visits from university lecturers.
