Welcome to Mathematics

The Mathematics learning area provides students with skills in areas such as logical reasoning and problem-solving. Mathematics can be a fundamental requirement for STEM based higher education courses and many students study the subject alongside other STEM subjects. Extra-curricular activities have included the University of Southampton's 'National Cipher Challenge', in which our team placed in the top 10% of the country, trips to Bletchley Park, the University of Portsmouth and the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge.

Girls who take Maths and a Science at A Level can go on to earn a third more than those who choose the Arts or Humanities. Boys are likely to be paid more as well.
