The Mathematics learning area provides students with skills in areas such as logical reasoning and problem-solving. Mathematics can be a fundamental requirement for STEM based higher education courses and many students study the subject alongside other STEM subjects. Extra-curricular activities have included the University of Southampton's 'National Cipher Challenge', in which our team placed in the top 10% of the country, trips to Bletchley Park, the University of Portsmouth and the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge.
Girls who take Maths and a Science at A Level can go on to earn a third more than those who choose the Arts or Humanities. Boys are likely to be paid more as well.
Esther studied English Language and Maths at Itchen, which she really enjoyed.
