Where can this course lead to?
A career in the field of dance, performance and much more is open to you after studying on this course. Many of our students go on to higher education to study dance and a whole host of other courses.
What will I study on this course?
You will focus on the development and performance of your own choreography and performing within a duo/trio. You will receive training on technique and the health and safety of the dancer. In addition, you will begin to develop critical skills for the analysis of choreography and performance within your own work and in professional repertoire.
The specification is separated into two units, which are as follows:
- The dancer as a performer
- The process and craft of choreography
- The significance of dances
Choreography and Performance
- The process of solo choreography from investigation and research of ideas through to outcome
- Physical and interpretative skills in relation to performance of the solo choreography
- Performance skills within a duo/trio performance context
You will not only study the process and craft of choreography through the creation of your own choreography but through the appreciation of professional repertoire.
In your second year, the focus of choreography is shifted towards group dance. The focus for dance theory will be orientated towards an era of study, with the possibility of focusing on ballet, modern dance in Britain or dance in the American musical. Dance students also perform at public dance events at intervals throughout the year.
Extended opportunities and enrichment
Students will take part in showcases throughout the year and go on visits to theatres, dance studios and world renowned destinations.
