Health & Social Care (triple award)

Vocational Level 3

This is for students who are looking to go into a career which will involve working with people such as children, young people or the elderly. The course is offered as a double award.

This course is for you if...

  • you like caring for people and are considering a career in the health and social care or education sector.

This course is a triple award therefore it cannot be studied alongside anything else.

What topics will I study? 

Topics may include:

  • Equality, diversity and rights
  • Human growth and development
  • Safeguarding
  • Communication in health and social care
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Psychological perspectives in health and social care
  • Sociological perspectives in health and social care
  • Working in health and social care and reflective practice.

The optional units draw from a much larger list of topics covering issues within the health and social care and education sector.

Work placements

Health & Social Care students have the valuable opportunity to put theory into practice through a series of mandatory work placements for one day each week enabling students to gain excellent ‘hands on’ experience.

Please note: students who take any Care course will be required to pay for a DBS (Disclosing and Barring Service) check.

What can I do after this course?

This qualification will allow you to apply to continue your studies at university, be it in teacher training, any aspect of nursing, social work childhood and early years studies. 

In the past our students have progressed to a wide variety of destinations, for example:

  • Teaching (early years and primary)
  • Nursing – child, adult, disability and mental health
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Social work
  • Hospital management/human resource management in a health setting

A wide variety of destinations are available to students undertaking this course.There are an increasing number of vocational routes available to our health & social care students especially with the development of High-Level Apprenticeship courses in health and social care (e.g. nursing).
