Results Success for Social Sciences & Care

Social Sciences & Care

The Faculty of Social Sciences & Care is celebrating excellent results this year and continues to significantly add value to its learners.

Students have always been successful on our courses and continue to progress onto both university and employment.

Our Care courses (Health & Social Care and Childcare) have done exceptionally well, with Childcare Level 3 students securing 100% A* - B results this year. Likewise in Health & Social Care, significant value was added to students expected outcomes, with students achieving consistently high grades.

In Psychology, 50% of learners secured an A*-B grade, with 85% securing A*-C grades and an overall 99% pass rate.  Similarly in Sociology, 99% of learners passed with 41% of grades achieving A*-B grades and 73% securing A*-C grades.

As Head of Faculty for Social Sciences and Care, James Bailey stated, 'I am very proud of the continued high level performance of our courses in Social Sciences & Care. I know I speak on behalf of our students in saying that the Social Sciences & Care teaching team are a real "force for change". They really do change young learners' life opportunities by combining passion for their subjects, ingenuity of teaching style, and determination to succeed. This allows students to be successful and highly productive, ensuring their progression onto university or employment destinations.'

After leaving Itchen, many of our students are going onto exciting careers and universities. In Care, the required work experience allows learning to be contextualised and our Care students benefit from the interaction between theory and practice.

Furthermore, a large cohort of Sociology and Psychology students this year benefitted from our Work Experience Week where students worked in varied locations such as G4S, Office for National Statistics, Wessex Neurological Centre, care homes, charities, schools and voluntary organisations.

Overall it has been another strong year for results in Social Sciences & Care and we are looking forward to the upcoming academic year.
