Vocational Level 2
This is an ideal course for anybody who would like an introduction to the English legal system.
This course is for you if...
- you enjoy current affairs and solving complex issues where the answer is not always so perfectly clear, but where your judgement could affect the future interpretation of points of law;
- you like to practice the formulation and construction of reasoned argument in the context of a legal framework
This Level 2 course can be combined with other Level 2 courses such as Uniformed Services or Business. It can also be taken alongside English, Maths or Science GCSE for students who wish to improve their existing grade.
What topics will I study?
The course consists of three units:
- An Introduction to the English legal system - this unit introduces the English legal system to you. It is the core unit of the qualification and its focal point. It seeks to provide the necessary basic information about the operation of the English legal system and the language of the law.
- Police Powers - the aim of this unit is to give an introduction to the running of the police service and their powers in the communityCriminal Law - the aim of this unit is to introduce you to the role of criminal law in England and Wales. The unit takes a broad approach and concentrates on a range of offences, and consequences of criminal behaviour
You will further develop your legal terminology, skills and knowledge relevant to identifying criminal behaviour and consequences, and the ability to apply the law to situations.
What can I do after this course?
The vocational qualification in Law & Legal Work is a recognised qualification and can lead to a range of jobs in the legal profession or uniformed services. Students can also use the qualification to progress to Level 3 Law courses such as A Level or vocational.
