Acting Students Attend Workshop With World-Renowned Theatre Company

Visual & Performing Arts

Fifteen second year BTEC acting students attended a placement setup by the internationally-acclaimed theatre company Gecko.

The workshop, which took place at the Nuffield Theatre in December, saw students become immersed in an intensive three-day work experience placement created by Gecko alongside Zoielogic Dance Theatre, a group based at The Point in Eastleigh.

The students were selected after their high level performances at the Nuffield Theatre’s experiment lab performance in November.

The new project was created to encourage local young people to engage with those who have recently moved to the UK or who were not born here. Over their three-day placement, the students created a moving piece of physical theatre about migration.

Gecko are known for their hugely visual and ambitious shows, with shows running for several years and touring across the country from their base in Ipswich. Zoielogic were formed seven years ago with the aim to get more men into dancing and to challenge public perceptions of dance.

Together the groups offered a fantastic and inspirational opportunity for Itchen students to develop their skills alongside professional actors.

We thank both companies for their hard work in running the placement and wish Gecko the best of luck with their new show, ‘The Wedding’.
