Former Student Called Up for Commonwealth Games

Academy of Sport

Kelly Simm, a former Itchen student and elite athlete, has been called up once again for the Commonwealth Games in Australia as part of the Team GB gymnastics team.

As an elite gymnast, Kelly's studies were tailored to fit around her intense training schedule, allowing her to train full-time and compete internationally for Great Britain.

Whilst at Itchen, Kelly’s achievements included gold and silver medals in the British Championships and a team gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

After achieving D*D* and A in Sport (double award) and Sport & PE, Kelly is now studying Sports Science at Southampton Solent University. In 2015 she became World University Games all-around champion and also won bronze with her team at the World Championships. She was a reserve on the Team GB Olympic team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de  Janeiro, Brazil.

Now she's returning to the Commonwealth Games, which are taking place in Australia in April. We wish her and her team good luck and hope they can retain their title!
