Instructions on Home Testing Kits
A note to Itchen Students and Parents and Guardians,
The home testing kits have arrived and we have been distributing them in lessons today (Friday). We will also be open on Saturday morning for distribution – from 10am to 12 noon in the main hall.
The lateral flow test-at-home kits enable students to self-test twice weekly during term time, for the purpose of identifying asymptomatic cases. Tests should be taken 3 or 4 days apart. Anyone who tests positive will be asked to self-isolate at home with their household. This will help to stop the spread of the virus by people who are not aware that they might have it. Students will be given two packs, which will be sufficient for students to use through to the Easter holidays. Paper instructions will be issued with each kit to help students to remember how to take the test.
Instructions: There is a short film How to do a COVID-19 Self-Test (Click the link in bold) which explains how to take the test. Teaching staff have shared this film with their students in lessons to ensure that all students are aware of the process. Students may wish to have this available to watch as they do their own tests for the first time.
Registration: Once students have taken their test at home, they should register their results through the NHS Test and Trace website https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. This is important as it helps to track the number of tests being taken and also enables positive cases to be registered with Test and Trace. It does take a couple of minutes to record the information and we recommend that students create an account to speed up the process for subsequent tests.
Reporting: Finally, students are reminded that should they test positive, they should notify the college by phone or email as soon as possible.
Thank you for all of your assistance and support with this process.
