Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) (Triple Award)
Vocational Level 3
This is a course for those who are looking to work with children and have experience in doing so.
This course is for you if:
- you love working with children and are looking for a career in this field by continuing your studies at university or as part of a vocational setting or abroad.
What topics will I study?
You will learn about working with children at different stages in their growth and development, up to the age of seven years. You also learn how to work with parents, carers and with other professionals in the field of child care and education.
There will be fifteen units in total to study. You will be required to complete compulsory practical placements with children, including schools and nurseries. Students may also gain some experience of working with children with additional needs during the two-year course.
Please note: Students who take any Care course will be required to pay for a DBS (Disclosing and Barring Service) check and be required to wear a course uniform in placement. Support may be available for this.
What can I do after this course?
Completion of this course means that you are now a licensed early year’s practitioner. After the course, students can seek employment within nursery or school settings, social services or move onto university to study primary teaching, nursing or social work.
The Care Department at Itchen continues to see successful outcomes for our students. Students are gaining employment as Childcare Practitioners (EYE), Teaching Assistants, Special School Assistants, and Pre-School Practitioners.
Some higher education offers are dependent on relevant vocational experience and the care department can provide this. In the past few years, students who have already successfully completed A Level courses in other subjects have enrolled onto the childcare courses at Itchen specifically to gain further vocational experience to support their university applications.
The course has 100% pass rate year after year. There is excellent progression for all our students with all the second years gaining employment or university placements.
