I Credit Everything to Itchen

David’s journey to success began at Itchen Sixth Form College, where his parents and agency ENLAP encouraged him to pursue his goals in a place renowned for its excellent Computer Science programme.

“I credit everything to Itchen,” David says, reflecting on the significant role the college played in his academic and professional life. “I never would have got to university without all the support that Itchen gave me, and without university I never would have been able to set up my own business.”

He particularly remembers his IT teacher, Steph Cooke, as “a funny and lovely lady” who helped make his time at Itchen unforgettable.

During his year at Itchen, David studied a BTEC Level 3 Double Award in Computer Science alongside AS Maths and Physics. Despite only staying for one year, the rigorous course at Itchen allowed him to secure a place at university. He went on to study at IMC Krems, a University of Technical Sciences in Austria, where he is now starting his Master’s degree.

David recalls Itchen as an incredibly friendly environment filled with bright, driven individuals, especially in the Physics and Maths departments.

From Italy to Itchen – A Love of Languages, Literature, and Learning

A last-minute application that fell on our desk just hours before our deadline turned out to be a life-changing decision for Sofia. Transcending borders to finish her high school with Itchen College, her academic journey here would shape her future.

Sofia chose to study History, English Literature, and Spanish — subjects that, for her, felt like a natural fit. She thrived particularly in Spanish, where she achieved an impressive A*, and has now gone on to study Foreign Languages and Literature at the prestigious Università di Bologna.

What made her experience at Itchen special was the way her subjects complimented one another. “The cross-curricular connections really helped me grow academically,” she said. “Literature gave me the research and source analysis skills I could use in History, and Spanish included lots of literary modules that linked everything together.” This holistic approach, paired with passionate teachers who truly loved their subjects, made her learning experience both rich and rewarding.

Although she found the UK education system more demanding than what she was used to, Sofia saw the benefit. “It’s definitely more challenging, especially in terms of depth,” she explained, “but it keeps your brain active — and I liked that.”

Outside of the classroom, Sofia made time to nurture her wellbeing through enrichment activities like papercrafts, yoga, and creative writing. “Enrichment was important,” she noted. “It gave me a place to relax and express myself, away from the pressure of exams.”

Another highlight of her time at Itchen was the strong bond she built with her homestay. Staying with the same host family for her entire programme, Sofia found stability and a sense of belonging that made all the difference during her time abroad.

Sofia’s journey is a testament to the power of pursuing what you love, embracing new challenges, and finding balance along the way. Her advice for future students? Stay open to the full experience — both academically and personally — because it’s all part of the journey.
