Welcome to the Golf Academy

Itchen College Golf Academy is one of the top golf academies in the country.

Since its launch, the Academy has had incredible success and we are currently AOC South East Champions, Hampshire Schools Champions and British Schools and Colleges Team Champions.

Our golfers compete in:

  • The Intercollegiate Tour
  • British Schools and Colleges
  • AoC competitions
  • Hampshire Team
  • Individual Championships

The golfers play and train at Hockley Golf Club in Winchester with coaching from the club’s head professional. All golfers have an opportunity to further their career in golf, with many going to American colleges on scholarships.

The Academy is run by Mark Wheeler, a former physical training instructor with the Royal Air Force and the Police. Mark is also the Secretary for the Hampshire Schools Golf Association. He also educates the golfers in sports psychology, nutrition and fitness.

  • Gemma Burgess secured a NCAA Division 1 US Scholarship to Jacksonville University, Florida

“Lewis studied BTEC Sport, A Level Sport & PE and A Level Geography whilst at Itchen, alongside the Golf Academy. He won the British Schools and Colleges South and South East Individual Order of Merit, finished 6th in the Intercollegiate Tour National Championships and also represented Hampshire Schools in the South West Championships, finishing 6th. Lewis is now studying and playing golf at the University of Northwestern Ohio in the United States on a four year scholarship. Playing against other US universities, Lewis is topping both team and individual competitions.”

The Golf Academy has provided me with the opportunity to develop my golf skills and now I'm at the University of Northwestern Ohio in the USA on a 100% scholarship, something that I would never have achieved if I had not joined Itchen College two years ago. My handicap is now 1 and I have played in weekly fixtures playing against some of the best players in the southern counties. If you are serious about your golf and see it as your future join the Golf Academy, I did and look at me now!

“Lawrence studied BTEC Sport, A Level Sport & PE, A Level Biology and A Level Geography whilst at Itchen, as well as playing for the Golf Academy. He won the South and South East Intercollegiate Order of Merit, finished 7th in the Intercollegiate Tour National Championships and also finished 8th in the British Schools and Colleges National Championships. Lawrence represented both Hampshire and Hampshire Schools and was the County Junior Captain. After spending a year in the US on a scholarship at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Lawrence is back in the UK after being chosen to represent England Schools in the home internationals.”
