Jack celebrates A*, A, A, A results after discovering a passion for coding at Itchen

Itchen student Jack is celebrating an outstanding set of A Level results after achieving A*, A, A,  A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science. His success has also helped him take an exciting new direction, with plans to study Software Engineering at the University of Southampton.

When Jack first started at Itchen College, he had a clear idea of the subject area he wanted to pursue in the future. His original ambition was to study Astrophysics, reflecting his interest in the sciences and his choice of subjects at A Level.

However, during his time with us, Jack discovered a growing passion for coding. That experience encouraged him to reconsider his plans and explore a different route into the future.

“I originally wanted to do Astrophysics but found my love for coding at Itchen, so decided to apply for Software Engineering at Southampton Uni.”

It is a change that highlights how students’ plans can develop and evolve during their time at college. For Jack, studying Computer Science alongside Maths, Further Maths and Physics gave him the opportunity to explore his interests further and ultimately identify a pathway that suited him.

His academic achievements are particularly impressive, with Jack securing A*, A,  A,  A across his A Levels. He is now preparing to progress to university, with Software Engineering at the University of Southampton his chosen next step.

But Jack’s time at Itchen has been about more than academic achievement. When asked what he was most proud of from his time at the College, he highlighted the personal confidence he has developed.

“Having the confidence to go out and meet lots of new people.”

Jack also credits the support of his teachers, saying that they were supportive throughout his time at Itchen and provided him with plenty of resources.

That combination of academic success, personal development and discovering a new direction has helped Jack feel ready for the next stage of his education.

His experience also gives him a message for students who may not yet know exactly what they want to do after Year 11:

“Just trust in yourself, and you will find your future.”

Jack’s journey demonstrates that choosing a future career or university course does not necessarily mean having every detail decided from the beginning. His original interest in Astrophysics developed into a passion for coding, ultimately leading him towards Software Engineering.

As he prepares for university, Jack can look back on his time at Itchen with an outstanding set of results and the confidence to take his next step.
