Mental Health & Wellbeing Support

At Itchen College, we want every student to feel supported in their mental health and wellbeing. We understand that young people may need different levels of support during their time at College, and we help them access the services that best meet their needs.

Our support includes counselling throughout the week, lunchtime drop-in sessions and a Wellbeing Practitioner who helps students build resilience, develop confidence and overcome challenges that may affect their learning. We also work with the NHS Mental Health in Schools Team and external agencies to connect students with additional support where appropriate. College support complements care provided by the NHS and other specialist services.

Below you will find additional information on mental health and wellbeing support

Overview of Support Available

Itchen also provides additional support for students with mental health and wellbeing issues. We have strong links with external agencies who support young people. We regularly signpost students to agencies such as CAMHS, No Limits, Solent Mind, NHS MHST, Breakout, and External Counselling Agencies. Each service at College offers a different type of support, and it is essential that students access or are referred to the right service. This information aims to ensure that any student needing additional support can access the appropriate type of help in addition, where applicable, to the services provided by the NHS or external agencies. This guidance can help a student to have greater self-awareness of their needs, and enable a teacher or parent to signpost the student to access the right support.  Our aim is to make the most effective use of the help available and to maximise the impact of the support offered. This is always in addition to those services provided by the NHS after referral from your GP.

We understand that young people may need different levels of support during their time at College. We offer Counselling each day of the week, including drop in sessions at lunchtimes. We also offer wellbeing support via our Wellbeing Practitioner who can work with individuals to build resilience, improve confidence and overcome challenges that may be an obstacle to learning.

Itchen College is also supported by the NHS Mental Health in Schools Team who work with young people to develop skills and practices in relation to low mood, anxiety, panic attacks and phobias.
