This course is suitable for those who have not achieved Maths GCSE grade 4/C. This is not a course for beginners and you will need some knowledge of maths to build upon to be able to achieve the GCSE along with regular attendance and continuous effort. If you have found the subject difficult in the past or haven’t studied maths for a long time it may be better to build up your skills and confidence with Functional Skills maths first.

We recommend that you familiarise yourself with Maths Genie (grades 1-2) online. You will be entered onto Foundation level which will give you the possibility to achieve a 5-1 grade (C-G equivalent). This course follows the Edexcel syllabus and content includes:

  • Standard Form and definitions of key mathematical terminology
  • Trigonometry
  • Quadratics, Quadratic, cubic and reciprocal functions
  • Reverse percentages, inverse proportion and percentage change

 

 

How will I be assessed?

There are two exams in May/June, each one being 2 hours 15 minutes.

It is essential you are available for these exams so please check with us before booking holidays.

How much home study will I have to do?

You will need to study for approximately 3 hours per week at home and extra time will be required for revision nearer the exam date.

How much does the course cost?

The government will fund you to complete GCSE English/Math qualification until you achieve a (Grade 4/C) or higher.
If you have already achieved Grade 4/C and wish to continue your studies to achieve a higher grade the cost of this
course is £382. Please note that your place is not confirmed until all fees have been paid.

Additional costs

£10 non-refundable fee which provides you with £11 printing credit to use in college. You will need to buy a text book which the tutor will advise you of at the first class. You will need a calculator, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler and paper. Later on you will need a protractor, compass, scientific calculator and the textbook
