This course will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the classroom environment. It is suitable for learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants in primary, secondary, sixth form or special needs schools. It is also suitable for those in a voluntary capacity. It is recommended that you work a minimum of 6 hours per week in your placement. To help you decide if this course is suitable for you there will be an informal interview. Before applying you should make sure that your school is willing to support you in this qualification. We cannot offer you a place until the completed application form is returned, including the workplace mentor’s agreement. You will need to have either a paid or voluntary placement where you are supporting learners in order to follow this course.
All students are required to complete an initial assessment. We will send you a link to complete this via our online BKSB platform, please ensure this is completed prior to completing the enrolment process. If you are unable to do this at home, let us know and we will arrange for you to use a computer in college.
Teaching will be fairly formal but with the emphasis on building on the knowledge that you already have. Delivery includes:

The course fee is £815.50. If you are earning below £17,004.00 or are receiving most means tested benefits you will only pay a £107 registration fee. Please call us if you need more information.
All students will pay a £107 registration fee. You will need to buy a text book which the tutor will advise you of at the first class. You will need paper and a pen.
Parking during the college day is limited, there is plenty of free parking in the surrounding roads if you are unable to park onsite. For evening courses we recommend you use our White’s Rd entrance SO19 7NS and enter vis the sports centre reception after your first day. On your first day please come to the main college reception we will be here to greet you and show you where to go.
We expect you to aim for 100% attendance and attendance is recorded for every timetabled session. Students are automatically withdrawn if they have not attended for 4 consecutive weeks. If a student’s attendance falls below 80% their place on the course and their exam entry will be at risk. We place considerable emphasis on excellent attendance and punctuality and ask you to respect and adhere to these values to ensure academic success. Any health concerns will be treated sympathetically and if necessary we will consider implementing the college’s Fitness to Study Policy.
