This term we ran weekly arts and crafts sessions throughout the term for our International Students. We arranged for Gemma from MayInspire Craft Workshops to come in weekly to run the Wednesday Workshops after lessons. Our students learnt new skills like macramé, quilling, decoupage, felting and painting. They made some unique items to take home including Shamballa bracelets, keyrings, magnets and decoupage bottles. It was very impressive to see what they made each week as they developed their skills and gained in confidence.
We will definitely be continuing with our Wednesday Workshops in the Spring Term as time spent creatively helps students balance their studies alongside important relaxation activities, which will then hopefully improve their academic performance. Gathering around the table together and chatting in English, the only language they all have in common, also helps not only their language skills but provides a common interest and helps them to bond and form strong friendships.
