On Thursday, September 19th, we proudly hosted a Mini Higher Education (HE) Fair, bringing together representatives from 16 universities across the UK. The event aimed to inspire and inform our students about their post-college options, providing them with valuable insights into higher education and helping them make well-informed decisions about their futures.
The Mini HE Fair was held in the college’s main hall, creating an engaging and dynamic environment where students had the opportunity to speak directly with university representatives. Among the attending institutions were the University of Southampton, University of Portsmouth, and Solent University, along with several others known for their academic excellence and diverse range of courses.
The universities showcased a wide array of undergraduate courses, including subjects in the arts, sciences, humanities, and vocational fields. Students were able to explore potential career paths, discuss degree programs, and learn about the application process, entry requirements, and the benefits of pursuing higher education.
Students across different year groups, including those currently exploring their UCAS applications, took full advantage of the chance to ask questions, collect prospectuses, and discover opportunities they might not have previously considered. Whether students were set on their academic ambitions or still undecided, the fair offered crucial support and guidance.
Adrian Waters, Head of Student Support at Itchen Sixth Form College, said:
“We are delighted to provide our students with this invaluable opportunity to engage with universities and start planning for their futures. The conversations they had today with university representatives will help guide their next steps and ensure they are making choices that align with their ambitions and passions.”
Tom Strutton from the University of Portsmouth said ‘We were very pleased to attend the event where we were able to speak to a lot of students, they asked great questions and were really interested to hear about the wide range of courses on offer at the university’.
The Mini HE Fair reflects Itchen’s commitment to preparing our students for life beyond college, offering them the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about higher education. We are grateful to the universities that participated and look forward to seeing our students take their next steps with confidence and excitement.
As part of our ongoing efforts to support student progression, the college will continue to offer a range of events, workshops, and one-on-one advice sessions to help students navigate their future pathways.
