Our Uniformed Protective Services team participated in a competition (only participating English team) in South Wales and are delighted to return with their prestigious trophy.
Teams from across Gwent assembled under the direction of the army, they marched as a squad to their first command stance. Upon arrival, they were faced with the Tower of Hanoi, a logic puzzle of five tyres which had to be moved in a systematic order. Then a challenging log run, resulting in a stop and search on route to find military personnel and coded boxes, they worked effectively as a team to decipher the codes to gain entry to the boxes, securing the items, before continuing with the arduous log run.
The next challenge was to go on patrol with the army, where the team were challenged with an observation task to identify hidden items within the forest. From the observation task, it went immediately into a memory challenge where a range of items were revealed for 30 seconds. The team had to memorise them, they were taken back out on patrol, before they had to recall the items.
Then onto ‘Toxic Waste’ where they had to effectively work as a team to move barrels using ropes to a secure holding zone. They then went to a car (potential terrorist incident) where they received a police brief, they had to secure the scene, restrain/manage and search the driver before searching the car and seizing a range of items. Using maps and intelligence gathered from the scene they systematically worked out the incident.
Moving on to Torpantau tunnel (disused train tunnel) where they had to search and extract casualties 600 metres within the tunnel, simulating a major incident underground.
Our Protective Services team were complemented on their effective leadership, teamwork, command and control and diligence. They excelled throughout the competition and were delighted to win.
