Dan celebrates A Level results and looks ahead to Computer Science at St Andrews

Dan is celebrating his A Level results after studying Computer Science, Physics, Maths and Further Maths (AS) at Itchen, with the University of St Andrews now his next destination.

For Dan, his future direction has always been relatively clear. When he started at Itchen, he already knew that he wanted to pursue Computer Science.

“Always wanted to do computer science.”

That clear interest influenced his choice of subjects, with Dan studying Computer Science alongside Physics, Maths and Further Maths (AS). His results included A, C, A and C, and he is now preparing to continue his education at the University of St Andrews.

One of the achievements Dan is particularly proud of from his time at Itchen is his performance in the UK Maths Challenge. He progressed to the second round and achieved a bronze award.

“Achieving bronze in the second round of UK Maths Challenge.”

The achievement reflects Dan’s interest in mathematics alongside his long-standing passion for Computer Science. His time at Itchen has also been shaped by the people around him. When asked who or what helped him get to where he is now, Dan highlighted the importance of his friends.

“Meeting friends who encouraged me.”

Having supportive people around him has been an important part of Dan’s experience at Itchen, alongside pursuing subjects that he has always been interested in.

As he prepares to move on to university, Dan also has some thoughtful advice for younger students who may not yet know what they want to do in the future.

“Remember that nothing’s set in stone and so don’t worry about getting it wrong.”

His advice reflects an important part of making decisions about education and future careers: students do not have to have everything worked out straight away. Plans can change, and discovering new interests or opportunities can help shape what comes next.

For Dan, however, his passion for Computer Science has remained a consistent part of his journey. Having known for some time that this was the area he wanted to pursue, he has continued to work towards that goal and is now ready for his next step at the University of St Andrews.

His story is one of academic ambition, perseverance and the encouragement that can come from friends and peers. From progressing in the UK Maths Challenge to achieving his A Level results, Dan has built on his interests at Itchen and is now looking forward to taking them further at university.
