Heidi Safir Mirza delivered an online talk and Q&A to our A-Level Sociologists. This was a fantastic way to introduce students to a sociological researcher who is celebrated for raising the profile of Black Feminism in the UK and to allow us to see how inequalities are complex and intertwined. Listening to Mirza speak about her motivation, her academic work and how she found herself in such a pivotal position was very inspiring for our students and teachers. We were also introduced to her more recent work on the experience of Muslim girls in schools and how school and particularly teachers play a core part in ensuring stereotypes are not reproduced in schooling experiences.
