Thalessa’s Triumph: From A-Level to Advocate

December 19, 2023

I will never forget how all of this started with a 17 year old girl going to Southampton for a 4 month exchange programme at Itchen College.

In 2014, a determined young student named Thalessa stepped through the doors of our college with a dream and the resolve to make it a reality. Initially planning to stay for just a term, Thalessa’s journey at our college became the foundation of a remarkable career in law, marked by dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to human rights.

Thalessa, hailing from a background where opportunities were hard-earned, quickly demonstrated an extraordinary aptitude for learning and a deep passion for justice. Her initial term extended into completing her A Levels with us, where she not only excelled academically but also became a role model for her peers.

Upon graduating from our college, Thalessa’s ambitions led her to the University of Brighton, where she pursued a degree in Business with Law. This multidisciplinary approach was a testament to her foresight in understanding the intricate relationship between commerce and legal practice. Her time at Brighton was marked by academic achievements and active involvement in various student-led legal initiatives.

With a Business with Law degree in hand, Thalessa’s quest for knowledge and professional excellence took her to Nottingham Trent University for a Masters. Here, she dove deeper into the complexities of law, developing a keen interest in human rights – a field that resonated with her core values.

The pinnacle of Thalessa’s educational journey was her qualification as a solicitor, specializing in human rights. This achievement was not just a personal milestone but a beacon of hope and inspiration for many. Today, Thalessa stands as a champion of justice, advocating for those whose voices are often unheard and rights overlooked.

Thalessa’s story is a vivid illustration of how our college not only educates but also empowers individuals to make significant impacts in the world. Her journey from a term student to a human rights solicitor is a narrative of growth, perseverance, and the transformative power of education.

As we celebrate Thalessa’s success, we are reminded of the potential each student carries and the role we play in unlocking it. Thalessa’s journey with us was just the beginning, but her achievements are a lasting legacy and a source of inspiration for current and future students.
