Course duration

• One year

This programme has no specific entry criteria. It provides a personalised and flexible approach to learning so that you can gain skills the qualifications that will allow you to progress to further study or employment.

This course is for you if ...
  • The Entry-Level programme is appropriate if you have a learning difficulty, and/or if you need to be taught in a small group with a high level of support.
Topics Covered
  • The focus of your programme will be on developing your skills, confidence and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • You will continue to develop your skills in literacy and numeracy through Functional Skills courses, which are delivered at the right level for you. These skills are assessed via short tests and lead to nationally recognised qualifications.
  • You will undertake work experience within the college, where there are opportunities to try out a range of different job roles, as well as external work experience when you are ready.

You will also take the following course leading to a nationally recognised qualification:

  • NCFE Entry Level/Level 1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development

This course covers a number of units, which will include the following areas: managing your own money, preparation for work and healthy living. The units are internally assessed and externally moderated. There are no exams.

What can I do after this course?

If you pass these courses and improve your literacy or numeracy skills, you may be able to progress to the next level of these qualifications in your second year. There are also opportunities to progress to a Level 1 course at Itchen, or at another college.  You may prefer to consider a supported internship, which will support you in employment.
