Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but we would expect students to have some level of spoken and written English already – at least a high E1/low E2 level. Additionally, all students will need to do an initial assessment.

• Assessment will be a combination of coursework and formal written exams.

This course is for you if…

You are settled in the UK, but English is not your first language. It is designed to give you more support to improve your English skills and give you increased confidence and ability to communicate, study and work in the UK.

What you will explore

Topics Covered:

  • The focus of the programme will be on developing your skills, confidence and ability to communicate in English.
  • You will increase your understanding of English grammar. You will improve your spoken and written communication skills. You will improve your vocabulary and the skills needed to study and work in the UK.
  • You will be entered for a nationally recognised ESOL qualification at the correct level for you.
  • You will continue to develop your skills in numeracy through a Functional Skills maths course, which will be delivered at the right level for you.
  • You will also have the chance to study for a Level 1 Award in Vocational Studies, which may include units (depending on demand) such as Personal Development, Being Organised, Business and Work Skills.
Skills you will develop

You will improve your English in all four skill areas: Speaking, listening, reading and writing.

You will gain in confidence and be able to better communicate for work, study and your general life.

You will improve your maths skills and understanding.

 

Where can ESOL lead?

What can I do after this course?

If students gain the appropriate level qualification in ESOL, maths and the vocational award; you will be able to progress onto a Level 1 or Level 2 Course within the college.
