Overview

With seven different contract bus routes, we support students travelling from Bishops Waltham; Hedge End; Whiteley; Park Gate; Gosport; Lee-on-the-Solent; Bishopstoke; Chandler’s Ford; Fareham; Warsash; Hamble; Netley; Romsey; Baddesley; Swaythling; and more! See our full bus routes for more details.

There will be 3 lunchtime bus services to and from college, in addition to the 7 regular morning and afternoon services. This will enable students with no morning lesson to travel to college at lunchtime for their afternoon session. Similarly, if they have a morning session but no timetabled lesson in the afternoon, they should be able to get home easily at lunchtime, at no additional cost.

Contract buses will stop at any bus stop on the published route, but please be sure to ‘flag down’ the bus, so that it is clear to the driver that you want the bus to stop. The bus will not stop unless you do this. Bus timetables show estimated departure times from stops – the actual departure times will vary depending on traffic flow, so please arrive at your stop at least five minutes before the published time. On occasions, buses will be delayed due to circumstances beyond our control, but we communicate emergency issues to students by using our Twitter feed (now X) @ItchenTransport.

Students from Totton and the Waterside have the option of using Bluestar services of the 8911 or 12 and transferring at Southampton Central Station to the Bluestar 18, which will drop students off within walking distance to the college. Bluestar has a subsidised bus pass arrangement for Southampton Colleges, and for more information you can contact our Transport Officer or visit the Bluestar website.

Bikes

We have lots of parking available for bikes. It is the student’s responsibility to bring a heavy duty lock, such as a D-lock, for their bike. A cable lock in insufficient.

Motorcycles and Mopeds

Motorcycle and moped parking is available for around forty vehicles behind the North Block. This parking area is covered and is accessible via the White’s Road entrance to the college.

Train

Our nearest train station is Sholing, which is a fifteen minute walk from college along Middle Road and then right into Station Road. Bikes can be taken on most local trains, and this arrangement works well for many students.

There is a very good service from Fareham to Sholing, via Burseldon and Hamble. The train service from Totton requires a short change at Southampton Central.

Ferry

Town Quay Marina is situated approximately 2.5 miles from Itchen and serves ferries from Hythe and East Cowes. Subsidised student tickets are available for Isle of Wight residents from Red Funnel.
