There are no specific course requirements, although personal fitness and a keen interest in football is essential. You are being trained to become a football coach so you need to be confident standing up in front of the class and taking coaching sessions.

You will be able to take this course alongside English and Maths GCSE, and may choose to complete it over one or two years depending on the level of study. Options exist to study a selection of the qualifications over just one year, or alternatively all of the coaching qualifications delivered over two years.

What You Will Explore

In Year 1 (Level 2), you will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of football coaching fundamentals, including tactics, techniques, and the principles of effective coaching.
  • Learn to design and deliver football sessions, tailoring your approach to suit the needs of players at different levels.
  • Develop your knowledge of the fitness and conditioning required to improve player performance.
  • Explore key areas such as injury prevention, nutrition, and the psychology behind player motivation.

This is a tailored course which could include a selection of the following options:

    • Emergency first aid
    • Child safeguarding
    • Level 1 in coaching football
    • Level 2 in coaching, teaching and instruction

In Year 2 (Level 3), you will:

  • Build on your Year 1 knowledge by expanding into advanced coaching techniques, team management, and leadership.
  • Explore topics like talent development, working with elite athletes, and coaching in various environments, including schools, grassroots clubs, and professional settings.
  • Refine your ability to plan, assess, and review coaching sessions, helping you to become an expert in the field.
  • Gain hands-on experience through placements and real-world coaching environments, allowing you to apply what you’ve learned in practical situations.
  • Level 3 in coaching, teaching and instruction
  • Options for units in treatment of sports injury or sports psychology
