We are extremely proud of every Itchen student and their individual achievements, our College performance is ultimately measured by the success of each individual student throughout their time at College. This overview provides information on some of the key areas of College performance.

 

2025 Results

Itchen College students have excelled, surpassing results from last year with outcomes in A Level and BTEC examinations, contributing to another year of academic and vocational success. Students have achieved a 96% provisional pass rate for A levels with over a third of students to achieving A* to B and two thirds achieving a grade between A* and C. All students on T Level courses passed their course, all achieving Distinction and Merit grades, while students on other vocational courses achieved a 99% pass rate with 80% enjoying Merit grades or better. 

 

Principal Alex Scott expressed pride in the accomplishments of all students, stating:  

“I am so proud of the determination and hard work of our students, supported by staff and the broader college community, alongside their parents and guardians. Their achievements underscore the college’s commitment to excellence in education, as reflected in our ‘Outstanding’ inspection outcome last year. I extend my congratulations to all our students and wish them every success in their future endeavours.”

Performance Tables

The Department for Education (DfE) publishes performance tables on all education providers of primary, secondary and 16-18 education. Post 16 providers are measured by progress, retention, English and Maths and student destinations. The performance tables also report on Ofsted judgements, finance data and other aspects of a school or college’s operation.

Ofsted 2024

Itchen Sixth Form College has achieved an ‘Outstanding’ rating in its recent Ofsted inspection, marking a proud moment for staff and students. Conducted from October 1 to 4, the inspection highlighted the college’s exceptional quality of education and its commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and those with high needs.

Inspectors praised the college’s nurturing environment, noting that “students benefit from a caring and supportive learning environment, where they are encouraged to grow in confidence and resilience.” They also commended the “impeccable behaviour” of students, who “look forward to coming to college and thoroughly enjoy their learning.”

The quality of teaching at Itchen was a standout feature in the report, with Ofsted acknowledging that “teachers plan learning skilfully,” ensuring students’ knowledge and skills develop “in fluency and complexity over time.” Teaching activities were described as “highly engaging,” with inspectors praising the use of “high-quality, up-to-date resources to add significant value to students’ learning.”

Students with high needs were also singled out, with Ofsted stating that they “make outstanding progress,” reflecting the college’s tailored approach to support and inclusion.

The inspection highlighted Itchen’s strong ties with local employers and community groups, noting that the college is “held in very high regard for their purposeful innovation, creativity, and flexibility to meet the needs of the local community.” Inspectors emphasised that these partnerships provide students with “hands-on experience and skills for successful transitions into the workforce or higher education.”

“This ‘Outstanding’ rating is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the achievements of our students, and the support they receive from parents and guardians. We are particularly pleased that inspectors acknowledged our strong focus on providing exceptional teaching, learning, and support. Our mission has always been to support students in achieving their full potential, and I am thrilled that Ofsted has recognised our efforts to foster an inclusive, aspirational, high-achieving, and supportive environment.”

The Ofsted report also highlighted the college’s commitment to social mobility, stating: “Leaders, managers, and staff are passionate about supporting social mobility.” With its outstanding performance and supportive culture, Itchen Sixth Form College continues to set a high standard for further education, ensuring students thrive both academically and personally.
