Entry Requirements

Grade 4 or above in English and Maths and a further five or more GCSEs at grade 4 (or above) or equivalent, preferably including an Art based subject (e.g. Fine Art, Textiles, Photography, Graphic Design etc.) At grade 9-4 or A*- C. Alternatively a portfolio of your creative work.

Photography is a dynamic and expressive subject that allows students to explore the world through a creative lens. This course is ideal for students who have a keen interest in the arts, an eye for detail, and a desire to understand the technical and theoretical aspects of photography. You will have the freedom to explore your personal interests, while being guided to achieve high levels of creativity and skill.

What Will You Explore?

In A Level Photography, you will delve into various areas of photographic practice, including:

  • Camera Techniques: Understanding aperture, shutter speed, ISO, composition, and the use of manual camera settings.
  • Studio & Location Photography: Exploring lighting, set design, and the use of natural environments to create stunning images.
  • Post-Production: Learning how to enhance your work through editing software, including Photoshop and Lightroom, to refine and perfect your images.
  • Historical & Contemporary Contexts: Studying the work of influential photographers and movements, from early pioneers to contemporary digital artists.
  • Creative Projects: You will engage in personal projects, developing themes that interest you. These can range from portraiture and fashion photography to documentary work, landscape, or fine art.

You will also explore genres such as photojournalism, experimental photography, advertising, and multimedia installations, allowing for a well-rounded experience in both traditional and digital techniques.
